Dan Krupka, Managing Principal

Dan Krupka is a leading expert on patient flow through operating rooms and the impact of the flow on a hospital's financial results. He began his professional career at Bell Labs, where he initially worked in condensed matter physics. He later established and led an internal consultancy in manufacturing operations. His organization worked with nearly every AT&T manufacturing facility around the world, introducing concepts that resulted in very substantial benefits. From 1985 to 1990, he was responsible for the Bold Initiative Program, aimed at upgrading several AT&T manufacturing facilities. The methods were so novel that special issue of the AT&T Technical Journal, documenting the initial project, was adopted as a textbook by several professors of industrial engineering. He also contributed to a National Academy of Engineering Report on the Foundations of Manufacturing Systems. In 1995, he joined Integral, Inc., a management consulting firm founded by two senior professors at the Harvard Business School. There he led engagements primarily for Fortune 100 companies. He subsequently worked for two years at McKinsey & Company, specializing in product development. At McKinsey, his engagements included consumer electronics, healthcare software, consumer packaged goods, power tools, and construction equipment. At Twin Peaks Group, he has led engagements aimed at accelerating the flow of patients through operating rooms and through the emergency department. He holds a B. Eng. in Engineering Physics from McGill University, a Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Physics from Cornell University.
